Collectively known as the Vale Federation Special Schools, Booker Park and Stocklake Park are located in Aylesbury, Bucks, and cater for a wide range of students with complex special educational needs across the whole age range.

We employ our own Speech and Language Therapy Team which currently has approximately 8.5 WTE therapists.

We are seeking to appoint the following:

Bucks Pay Range Band 9, spine point dependent on experience
NHS Band 8A equivalent
Full Time (Part time/job share may be considered)
52 week contract – working term time + 3 weeks

This post will become vacant in September due to the retirement of the current postholders.
The new post holder will be a member of the School Senior Leadership Team, and should have considerable experience of working in an education setting including with children who have complex special educational needs. The post holder will need to provide leadership and innovation in developing the service within the school. Previous experience of managing and supporting a speech and language team is highly desirable. As this post has a 0.4 clinical component, the successful candidate should have knowledge and expertise in a relevant clinical area.

52 week contract – working term time + 2 weeks

The postholder will hold a post graduate qualification in paediatric dysphagia, and will have extensive experience in the field. The postholder will take the lead in delivering the dysphagia service across the Federation, and will also provide clinical support to other therapists in the team to develop their competencies in the management of dysphagia.

• The Vale Federation Schools use the SCERTS framework. A ‘Total Communication Approach’ is incorporated into classroom practice, and signing/symbols are used extensively.
• Continuing Professional Development is actively encouraged, and the schools have a proactive attitude to training and development opportunities.
• The Speech and Language Therapy Department is well resourced with access to a comprehensive range of assessments and digital resources as well as more traditional equipment.
• Therapists are provided with their own laptops.
• Notes are recorded online using a professional software package
• There are many opportunities to work together with the large onsite OT team and other members of the MDT.
• Regular clinical supervision is in place for the SaLT team.

Therapists enjoy parity with their teacher colleagues in working term time only with paid school holidays.
