St Helena Island, South Atlantic

Enjoying unique lifestyle opportunities, St Helena Island is a self-governing overseas territory of the United Kingdom. Although better placed to develop economically and socially as a result of opening our international airport in 2017, we are not at the stage of self-sufficiency and therefore remain dependent on UK government aid.

Working closely with the Health, Education and Children & Adult Social Care Directorates, you will help to promote and develop a Speech and Language Therapy practice which is person-centred and outcome-focused, throughout community, hospital and residential settings. You will use clinical reasoning to analyse and interpret complex findings from standardised and non-standardised assessments and clinical observation to establish an accurate level of ability, formulate appropriate therapy goals, carry out intervention, and make onward referrals to external agencies as appropriate. You will run large and small group training sessions and follow up sessions both internally and externally. Capacity building and succession planning will also be vital.

Holding a recognised S&LT degree level qualification or equivalent, you must be a registered member of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists and of the Health & Care Professions Council. Significant experience of working with children and adults with communication difficulties will be essential, plus experience of integrated working in multi-disciplinary teams. Flexible and adaptable, you must also have VERVE training, knowledge of the Mental Capacity Ordinance (2016) or Mental Capacity Act (UK), and have working knowledge of safeguarding procedures/policy.

In addition, you must demonstrate our core values of fairness, integrity and teamwork and use your diverse expertise and experiences to ensure your time on the Island has the broadest benefit to St Helena. As an officer funded by the UK Government through the Technical Co-Operation Programme you will be expected to share your knowledge and skills beyond the workplace contributing to workforce, community and capacity development in St Helena.

Our Benefits Package Includes:
• Salary: £30k pa, depending on experience and qualifications, taxable in St Helena
• A tax free International Supplement, full details of which are in the Overseas Vacancy Information at www.sthelenacareers.co.uk
• Relocation Allowances, full details of which are in the Overseas Vacancy Information at www.sthelenacareers.co.uk
