A dynamic and motivated Speech and Language Therapist is required to undertake assessment and therapy of adults with acquired disorders of swallowing and communication across domiciliary and nursing home settings in Jersey. This is an exciting new role and is part of an Island wide project to promote and support accessible communication for a range of clients in Nursing Homes, Residential Homes and Care Agencies. The role is to provide both the support for clients with a diverse range of communication impairments, and to provide training programmes to a number of agencies to improve their communication skills and understanding of the clients in their care. The role will also involve the assessment and management of those with dysphagia across these community settings, and to provide training packages for those involved in client care to improve the overall management of dysphagia.

This new role is partly funded by the Disability Strategy in Jersey with a primary focus to develop communication abilities and the communication environment involved in each person's care. The role will be complex and varied. The post holder will be part of the Adult Speech and Language Therapy Team in Jersey. We are a close knit team with a wide skill mix, and will offer support and CPD to the new team member.

The successful candidate will be self-motivated with a minimum of 3 years’ experience working with an adult case load and have experience of independently managing dysphagia in a range of client groups. The successful candidate will develop good working relationships across a range of settings, provide specialist assessment, intervention and advice to adults, their carers and other professionals in the MDT. The successful candidate will have extensive knowledge of managing a range of communication impairments and implementing alternative and augmentative communication, managing dysphagia in community settings, MDT collaboration and an understanding of audit and outcome measures to demonstrate the effectiveness of the new initiative.
