Acute Medical Speech & Language Therapist
Band 6 - Full Time (37.5 hours) - 1st February 2021 (Fixed Term until February 2022)

Do you have experience of working in an acute hospital? Would you like to develop skills in training, caseload management, cough reflex testing, videofluoroscopy, FEES and tracheostomy? If so, we have the post for you!

This is an exciting opportunity for a band 6 Speech & Language Therapist to join the inpatient speech and language therapy team at the Royal Surrey NHS Foundation Trust for 12 months. Suitable candidates should have completed post-graduate competencies in acquired dysphagia management and have recent, relevant experience working with acutely unwell patients. Experience of assessing and treating patients with communication disorders due to a range of acquired neurological conditions is essential. You would be fully supported to continue developing competencies in cough reflex testing, videofluoroscopy, FEES and tracheostomy management as per highest clinical need.

You must be registered with the HCPC and the RCSLT for this post.

This post is initially fixed term until February 2022 but there may be opportunities for a permanent role at the end of the fixed term role.

The Speech and Language Therapy team has expertise in the management of patients with Head & Neck cancer (including laryngectomy), Stroke, Neurology, Acute Medicine, Neuro-Oncology and Voice disorders. We also have a Rapid Response inpatient dysphagia service and run regular training sessions for nurses who carry out dysphagia screening.

We offer a supportive environment with regular team meetings, a rolling in-service CPD programme and have access to secretarial support.
