Job Summary

We have a unique opportunity for an experienced Speech and Language Therapist to take over an established and high-quality Speech and Language service across nine mainstream Primary Schools in central London. The South Westminster Cluster Schools have commissioned their own Speech and Language service since 2017 to ensure that every child has the chance to achieve their full potential, and the schools/funders have committed to continuing the service for at least the next three academic years.

The role would suit an enthusiastic and committed Speech and Language Therapist who is looking for a fresh challenge, who enjoys having a diverse caseload and a varied role, and who is looking for the freedom to develop an innovative service that meets the real needs of children and their schools.

Main Responsibilities

To plan and manage all aspects of the service in consultation with the nine schools.

To independently deliver a ‘whole school approach’, involving a broad mix of Specialist, Targeted and Universal interventions, to support the development of children’s communication skills across the schools.

To assess, diagnose and manage a caseload of children aged 4-11 with a wide range of speech, language and communication difficulties, including DLD, ASD, Speech Disorder, Selective Mutism, Speech Dysfluency, Hearing Impairment, ADD/ADHD, GDD and Dyslexia.

To deliver Specialist interventions that include individual/group therapy as well as in-setting support, and are developed and delivered in consultation with teaching staff, parents and children as appropriate.

To prepare and deliver Targeted and Universal interventions such as training and collaborative work, to develop the awareness and skills of teaching staff, parents and other stakeholders, so that they are able to support the development of children’s communication skills.

To communicate effectively with parents and schools, through written reports, meetings etc, reflecting the needs of a culturally- and linguistically-diverse school population.

To collaborate with other professionals such as Specialist Advisory Teachers and Educational Psychologists.

To monitor, assess, record and report on the impacts of interventions to schools, funders and other stakeholders.

The service is well-resourced and the successful candidate will have access to appropriate support and development opportunities, such as clinical supervision and CPD.
