Speech and Language Therapist (Band 5)

Hours of Work: 37.5 hours per week Salary: Band 5 £ 24,214 - £30,112

Do you have passion and determination? Yes! Well you are the person we need! you will be a core member of the Allied Health Professions team, working autonomously responsible for the coordination, assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation and reassessment of the care of patients within the caseload, whilst maintaining appropriate documentation. You will work closely with other Speech and Language Therapists (SLTs) and the wider interdisciplinary team to provide an integrated SLT provision to services across the hospital site. Your main responsibilities will be:

Provide a holistic, patient-centred approach to care planning and SLT interventions
To provide assessment, therapy, advice and support to adults with acquired neurology (including stroke, head injury and degenerative diseases). Establishing goals and necessary protocols and risk assessments.
To make differential diagnoses regarding their speech, language, communication, and swallowing status.
To be an integral part of the Interdisciplinary team (IDT), providing advice in the areas of communication and swallowing for medical, nursing and other health care professionals. This includes handover instructions to key workers and reviewing the carryover, taking part in IDT meetings and setting realistic and functional goals for patients.
To demonstrate empathy with clients, carers, families and colleagues, ensuring that effective communication is achieved, particularly where barriers to understanding exist, e.g. aphasia. To adapt your communication style to the needs and personality of patients and their relatives. To create tailored communication guidelines to support staff in adapting their communication style appropriately.
