We are looking for experienced Specialist Speech Language Therapists to join our innovative Specialist Communication and Interaction Team. You’ll provide essential therapy interventions and class-based support to children with a wide range of Speech Language and Communication Needs (SLCN) in Hampshire’s mainstream and special schools.

This is an exciting time to join our unique team as we develop sold services and commissioning arrangements, involving new models of delivery and outreach to a wider range of pupils in both mainstream and special schools.

You’ll work collaboratively with our Specialist Teachers, in both Primary and Secondary Special Schools to support a small caseload of children. You’ll use your experience to act as a consultant to develop staff skills; enabling them to maximise children’s learning through meeting their communication needs. Working closely with Special Educational Needs (SEN) colleagues, you’ll also carry out and advise on assessments for Education, Health and Care Plans and appeals. You’ll have the opportunity to act as an Expert Witness for the County at SENDIST Tribunals and will be given the training and support to do so.

You’ll hold a recognised Speech and Language Therapy degree qualification, or equivalent, coupled with significant post graduate experience working with children with a wide range of SLCN and SEN. You’ll be confident in delivering effective therapy and be committed to continuous service improvement, to ensure young people receive a positive learning experience.

Role Responsibilities:
•Assessing and analysing individual Speech Language and Communication Needs (SLCN)
•Planning interventions and making diagnoses
•Providing school staff with strategies and approaches to support young people with SLCN
•Providing specialist information and knowledge to colleagues
•Managing conflicting views and needs and negotiating a shared understanding to enable effective planning and review
•Contributing to evaluation of service priorities and strategic development
•Attending SEN and Disability Tribunals as required
•Actively supporting professional development, including the induction of new team members and participation in performance reviews

Essential Skills, Knowledge and Experiences:
•Recognised Speech and Language Therapy degree qualification, or equivalent
•Registered with HCPC
•Registered member of Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists
•Good auditory discrimination skills and ability to transcribe speech phonetically and language errors accurately
•Knowledge of the National Curriculum and the Education Code of Practice
•Specialist knowledge of Speech, Language and Communication Needs
•Knowledge of relevant assessment tools and therapeutic interventions and the impact of language impairment on attainment
•Excellent interpersonal skills to enable development with a range of pupils with varying levels of co-operation
•Experience of working as part of a multidisciplinary team
•Good analytical and reflection skills
•Negotiation and problem-solving skills
•Excellent verbal and written skills
•Prioritisation and time management skills
•Experience of working as an Expert Witness (Desirable)
