Speech & Language Therapist

We are looking for a Speech and Language Therapist for our committed multi-disciplinary therapy team. Providing a wide range of support to our teams who support and teach children and adults with Autism, developing practice, working in partnership with other agencies, finding new ways to enable our children and adults have more choices in life. Our services include the hugely successful Portfield School, which caters for children from Early Years to Sixth Form. We also support young people towards independence in the community and in a residential setting.

The successful candidate would report in to the Lead SALT. We are happy to accept newly qualified candidates.

Role Responsibilities:

-Deliver a comprehensive, innovative and dynamic speech and language therapy service that meets the needs of pupils and service users across Autism Wessex (AW), within the AW Positive Behaviour Model.

-Promote expertise of staff within the charity through training, staff guidance and modelling and supervision for class-led therapy programmes.

-Support the development of a Total Communication environment across AW services

-Assess and provide therapeutic input to children and adults with communication difficulties, including initial assessments, annual reviews, transition support, individual and group therapy programmes.

-Independently manage and prioritise a defined caseload to meet the Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCP) SALT requirements of students, in addition to any referral input for both students and adult service users, with support from a senior therapist.

-Liaise with all involved professionals and relatives as appropriate to the management of the individual.

-Provide clinical practice in line with clinical guidelines and with due regard for evidence based practice.

-Maintain continuous professional development to support this.

-Keep accurate and informative case notes, following SOAP (Subjective, Objective, Analysis, Plan) format

-Liaise with staff and individual’s relatives in devising and implementing speech and language therapy programmes.

-Contributing and delivering in-service training (including induction training and workshops) when required.

Our Ideal Candidate will have:

-Recognised Speech and Language Therapy degree

-Registered member of the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT) and the Health, Care and Professionals Council (HCPC)

-Knowledge of a range of relevant therapeutic interventions and assessment tools relevant to the client group at Autism Wessex.

-Ability to translate policies and research into practice.

-Flexible approach to service design and delivery.

-Ability to set SMART targets and measure therapy outcomes.

-Able and committed to reflect on practice with peers/clinical supervisor/managers.

-Ability to problem solve proactively.

-Strong time-management and prioritisation skills.

-Car driver essential
