Job Post: Speech &Language Therapist (Peripatetic)
Rate: £45 per hour
Reporting To: Headmistress &Academic Deputy Head

Aim of the Post
The post holder will support students with needs including Autistic Spectrum Disorders, Mild Learning Disabilities &associated behaviours. This will be carried out in close collaboration with all teaching & support staff, to develop the students’ overall communication &language skills with a focus on functional skills in everyday life.

Duties Comprise:
Clinical Expertise
●Provide formal & informal assessment as well as weekly intervention for adolescents aged 11-18 with speech &language needs including Developmental Language Disorder, Autism Spectrum Condition &more general learning difficulties.
●Running social skills groups to facilitate forming friendships, conversational skills & problem solving with peers.
●Evaluating students’ progress against their IEP targets &providing termly reports with recommendations.
●Providing consultation to parents, teachers &support staff.

●Identify appropriate & effective strategies to facilitate &enhance communicative effectiveness & reduce challenging behaviour.
●Provide clear & detailed Speech &Language Therapy programmes fully integrated into the educational curriculum in consultation with key staff, demonstrating clinical effectiveness through evidence based practice &outcome measures.
●Demonstrate clinical effectiveness & ensure practice is evidence based where possible (based on Royal College of Speech &Language Therapy (RCSLT) guidance on best practice in service organisation &provision (Communicating Quality 3, 2006)).
●Collaborate with &train support staff in delivering specialist speech & language therapy programmes across the curriculum so that therapy is embedded into the students’ daily routines & education.
●Participate in reflective practice &receive regular supervision from an external SLT.
●To keep up to date with the latest technology &initiatives relating to SALT &where appropriate, to implement this around the school.

Clinical Advisory
●In partnership with other agencies/teams to implement multi element intervention plans.
●Jointly plan & provide professional development related to communication &behaviour to teaching & support staff.
●Attend peer supervision &special interest groups.

Performance &Professional Development
●Ensure delivery of all aspects of speech & language intervention to a high clinical standard in line with EHCP targets.
●Adhere to the RCSLT Code of Practice & be accountable for own professional action.
●Gather &update activity data accurately & regularly, ensuring the provision of such information promptly.
●Maintain professional status &competence by keeping up to date with new clinical developments, fulfilling professional CPD requirements.
●To be fully aware of and understandthe duties & responsibilities arising from the Children’s Act 2004 & Working Together in relation to child protection &safeguarding children & young people.
●To ensure that the school DSLs are made aware &kept fully informed of any concerns which the worker may have in relation to safeguarding and/or child protection.
