I CAN is the children’s communication charity and our vision is a world where all children have the communication skills they need to fulfil their potential. Serving children and families for 130 years, I CAN today consists of two special schools, Meath School (Surrey) and Dawn House School (East Midlands); a social enterprise that develops and distributes a wide range of materials, training packages and interventions across the nation; the I CAN Help portfolio of information and advice for parents, carers and practitioners; and is the host for The Communication Trust, a consortium of over 50 organisations in the field of communication. I CAN’s mission is that no child should be left out or left behind because of a difficulty speaking or understanding.

This is an exciting time to join our organisation. We are seeking experienced speech and language specialists to deliver training sessions to early years setting managers and SENCOs. The sessions form part of recently-won contracts to equip the early years workforce with essential tools and training needed to ensure we increase the chances for children with SEND.

The first part of the training is being delivered throughout the North-West, the North-East, West Midlands, East Midlands and Yorkshire and Humberside in cohorts of between 20 and 35 delegates between January and April 2019. These half day SLCN sessions will form part of a whole day co-delivery, alongside a practitioner from Nasen. (Successful applicants will be required to attend the training for the full day).

The training has now been piloted, having been designed by a highly experienced member of the I CAN team. Arrangements are being made for familiarisation of the material by successful applicants on 20 December 2018 at the Nasen headquarters in Tamworth, Staffordshire.

The successful candidate will be a home-based consultant with demonstrable evidence of:
• Experience and qualifications relating to children’s speech, language and communication needs (SLCN), with a focus on early years.
• Membership of a relevant professional body or significant experience.
• Training delivery experience to professional practitioners.
• Knowledge and understanding of early years settings.
• Ability to travel to training locations and operate the hours required to deliver two or more training days (for dates and locations, look for ‘meeting the needs of every child – SEND for managers of PVIs’ on the following link: http://www.nasen.org.uk/professional-learning/events-listing.html)
• The ability to attend the training session for trainers at Nasen Headquarters in Tamworth, Staffordshire, for which payment will be made.
• A current valid DBS check (Desirable).

Does this sound like you? We would love to hear from you if that is the case.

Candidates are encouraged to apply early as shortlisting will happen whilst the advert is live as we are keen to fill this opportunity quickly.

To apply, please submit your up to date CV and covering letter addressing the points above to jobs@ican.org.uk by 10 December 2018. Licensed I CAN tutors need not provide a CV.
