We have an exciting opportunity for a Speech and Language Therapy Assistant to work as part of our therapy team. The ideal candidate will have experience working with Special Education Needs, will be organised, flexible and have excellent communication skills. The following skills are desirable: budget management, writing notes, summarising assessment children’s details and conveying information to appropriate staff, delivering therapy, diary management, recording and analysing pupil target data. The candidate will need to be confident in using IT such as Microsoft Office.

Duties will include supporting the Speech and Language Therapist (SALT) during group therapy sessions, carrying out specific therapy programmes as directed by the qualified SALT, making and ordering new resources and assessments as required as well as completing allocated administrative tasks.

The ideal candidate will have:
• Relevant experience of working with young people with a diagnosis of Autism.
• Qualifications relevant to pursuing a career as a Speech and Language Therapist (e.g. undergraduate degree in a related field such as linguistics, psychology, or education).
• Should demonstrate knowledge of typical child development and have an understanding of communication difficulties.
• An understanding of the role of a Speech and Language Therapist and the wider multidisciplinary team (e.g. occupational therapy, education staff).
• An understanding of the triad of impairments related to Autism and how such difficulties may present (e.g. sensory sensitivities).
• Confidence, enthusiasm and a passion for learning.
• Excellent English skills (clear written and spoken English) along with good reading, writing and numeracy skills.
• The ability to build good working relationships with children, teachers, parents and carers.
• Experience of working with children with Special Education Needs (SEN), particularly children on the Autism Spectrum.
• Experience of working with children and the ability to manage groups of children and cope with challenging behaviour are desirable for the role.
• The ability to manage a small group of children with complex social communication needs.
• The ability to promote positive behaviour in a nurturing environment is essential.
