Loddon School
Job Ref:

We are seeking a qualified Speech and Language Therapist who has experience of /or an interest in working with pupils with autism (primarily non-verbal) and complex learning difficulties. The school welcomes applications from newly qualified Speech and Language Therapists, and strongly believes that our school will provide a wealth of experience and a richness of training and support to provide a highly positive start to someone wanting a thriving career.

“The Loddon School is outstanding because:
• Children, most of whom have struggled in other residential special schools, make exceptional progress. They engage with their learning, find new ways to communicate other than through challenging behaviour and grow in confidence and self-esteem.
• Education, care and therapy teams are fully integrated. The entire team focuses on the needs of each child, communicating across the disciplines so that there is a consistent approach.”

Ofsted December 2017.

The Loddon School offers a unique approach to therapy and education therefore you should be highly motivated and have great interest in working as part of a wider team to provide blended therapy within an educational environment.

The Speech and Language Therapist will work with teachers and care staff to enhance the learning process, develop the communication skills of the children and enable our exciting waking day curriculum. This is a unique opportunity to work collaboratively with a range of professionals and to use therapeutic skills creatively to meet the special educational needs of pupils.

You will be the sole Speech and Language Therapist at the school; however, we fully support the need for clinical supervision and CPD opportunities. It is desirable that you have knowledge of or experience of providing intensive specialist support and we will need you to focus on service development/service improvement. You will be required to review education and health and care plans as part of a wide multi-disciplinary team so it is useful to have knowledge/experience of using these plans, carrying out assessments and devising direct and indirect personalised therapy programmes.

You will be required to participate in training and feel confident to design and deliver training to key staff members regarding the role of SLT and planned interventions for the children.

We are looking for someone who is enthusiastic and strongly motivated to join a multi-disciplinary team and who can demonstrate an innovative and flexible working style. We need someone who will be passionate about high quality education and support for children of all abilities. You must be professional, an excellent clinician and have good communication and IT skills.

The position is full time working Monday-Friday between the hours of 8.30am-4.30pm however we would consider a part time position for the right candidate. The salary for the role is based on experience and qualifications. The closing date for this position is Friday 20th July.

The Loddon School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all pupils attending the school. As the duties of these posts involve regular contact with children, any offer to the successful candidates will be conditional upon an Enhanced Disclosure being obtained via the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS).
