A breakthrough can seem like the smallest thing, but it can make the world of difference to someone on the autism spectrum. By becoming a Speech and Language Therapist at Church Lawton School you’ll help make Everyday Breakthroughs happen more often.

We are a forward thinking Autism Specific Specialist Free School seeking a Speech and Language Therapist to work with our Multi-Agency Support Team to support our students within the school.

We were recently inspected in November 2017. The School was rated as Good.

Supported by the National Autistic Society Academies Trust, we cater for up to 60 young people aged 4-19 with Autism and Asperger Syndrome. As a part of the NAS Academies Trust, we are developing significant professional and working partnerships with the already established Independent NAS schools drawing on knowledge and expertise through professional working relationships to ensure best practise is shared.

This is an exciting opportunity to be a part of the school’s continuing development where you will be working closely with our already established therapy team and Classroom Based Staff. As a multidisciplinary team we strive to deliver best practice at all times to our students and are passionate about continued service development.

We aim to deliver the highest level of education and experiences to ensure the best life chances become a sustainable reality for every young person (on an individual needs led basis). Together, we will create a safe, positive and structured environment in which every young person is respected and encouraged to achieve independence (through academic, employment and personal skills development).

To be considered for this role, you will need to be able to demonstrate a passion and enthusiasm for supporting pupils with a diagnosis of Autism and have excellent verbal, and written communication skills, as collaborative working within the multidisciplinary team is essential. You will be flexible in your working practice and a good team player. We are looking to appoint a confident and skilled professional who is committed to developing expertise and specialism within the field.

You will be actively involved in staff training and there will also be the opportunity to increase your knowledge and skills through participation in team and wider NAS continuing professional development programmes.

You will be expected to work largely on your own initiative and be confident in representing Speech and Language Therapy within annual reviews and team meetings.

You must hold a recognised Speech and Language Therapy qualification and be registered with the HCPC. We would welcome applications from newly qualified candidates.

Being a Speech and Language Therapist requires enthusiasm, patience and commitment. But working with autistic people gives so much more in return.
