Grade/ Salary (NHS Band 6 equivalent £26,565 to £35,577) spans NJC Grade 7/8 (SCP30 £26,822 to SCP40 £35,444 pro rata)
Actual salary: £23,173 to £30,622
Term time only, plus 5 days inset training (39 weeks)
37hrs per week, term time only (Mon to Thurs 08:45-16:45, Fri 08:45-16:15)
Required as soon as possible, temporary in the first instance with a view to becoming permanent, subject to funding and satisfactory completion of induction period.

Are you an experienced Speech and Language Therapist (SLT) with the enthusiasm and motivation to work with children and young adults with a wide range of learning difficulties and disabilities, including autism? This unique opportunity allows you to work alongside a successful and growing school team of dedicated specialist staff. We aim to deliver an outstanding school experience to Learners with Learning Difficulties and Disabilities (LLDD) and their families.

The post will be based at Tor View Specialist Learning Community, a National Teaching School which has been graded as Outstanding since 2000. The school has recently undergone conversion to Academy status and already has strong professional links with academic and NHS professionals. In the first instance, the post holder will work across our all age provision (2-22+ years) to build capacity and resilience amongst the learners, their families and staff team. The postholder may also be involved with offering outreach support into mainstream and specialist partner schools.

Essential Criteria:

• At least 2 years’ experience as an SLT with additional training and experience of working with LLDD and their families.
• Previous experience of working with LLDD in an educational context including early years to KS5.
• Demonstrable experience of working with children who use Alternative and Augmentative Communication (AAC) and may have additional Sensory Processing Disorders: HI: VI and PMLD.
• Experience working with children with complex needs such as ADHD and ASD. This may also include children who may use alternative forms of communication.
• Training and experience working with children with challenging behaviours.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Knowledge and understanding of working within a culturally diverse community.
• Ability to develop effective strategies to engage hard-to-reach families.
• Experienced in delivering training to professionals.
• Experience of liaising effectively with relevant agencies, including health professionals.
• Experience of monitoring and evaluating for improvement.
• Current member of the HCPC and eligible for membership to the RCSLT.

Desirable but not essential:

To be familiar with and or trained in;
• Training in mealtime difficulties and dysphagia management
• Makaton Sign Vocabulary
• ELKLAN (Supporting Children with SLD or similar)
• Derbyshire Language Scheme
