Salary: Appointment will be made on the Lecturer Salary Scale at a point in line with Government Pay

The School of Linguistic, Speech and Communications Sciences invites applications for the position
of Assistant Professor in Speech and Language Pathology. This post is central to the undergraduate
and postgraduate educational activities within the Department. The appointee will be expected to
collaborate with colleagues in teaching, research supervision and clinical practice support for students
registered for the undergraduate speech and language therapy programme within the department. In
addition, the post-holder may contribute to postgraduate activities through teaching and/or project
supervision in the areas of developmental speech, language, and communication disorders.
The School of Linguistic, Speech and Communications Sciences seeks to appoint a full-time Assistant
Professor in Speech and Language Pathology. The successful candidate will have a PhD and will carry
out teaching and research on aspects of developmental speech, language, and communication
impairments. The post holder will also be responsible for administrative duties as assigned by the Head
of Discipline, in line with the workload model of the School.

Main Responsibilities
Teaching

•The Assistant Professor will have a track record of teaching, clinical practice and research in
developmental speech, language, and communication disorders.

•They will have a professional qualification in Speech and Language Therapy and will be eligible
for registration with CORU as a Speech and Language Therapist.

•They will be expected to lead and teach some curriculum modules within the Department of
Clinical Speech and Language Studies at undergraduate level and may have some
postgraduate teaching and research supervision responsibilities, in line with current workload
models within the School.

• The appointee will be expected to provide research supervision to undergraduate students
as a sole supervisor and/or with a co-supervisor.

• The successful candidate will also be expected to offer clinical teaching to undergraduate
students, including involvement in assessment of clinical competence.

Research
• The Assistant Professor will be expected to develop new and build on existing research
activities within the Department and School, and to develop and maintain an active
research profile in the area of developmental speech, language and communication
disorders or other relevant research areas.

Administration
• The Assistant Professor will be expected to assist in the academic administrative support of
the taught programmes offered by the Department of Clinical Speech and Language
Studies and other activities within the School as assigned by the Head of Discipline in line
with the School workload model.
