Dorset Council is committed to the provision of quality services for young people and is embedding an innovative service model, based on the ‘No Wrong Door’ approach developed in North Yorkshire. Centred around a children’s residential hub in Weymouth, The Harbour will improve outcomes for young people aged 11- 25 yrs on the edge of care, in care and leaving care.

We want all young people to reach their full potential and become successful contributors to their community and wider society. We are looking for a talented and experienced Speech and Language Therapist to plan, develop and co-ordinate the speech and language therapy service for children with many vulnerabilities and complex communication disorders as part of an integrated service, alongside a number of specialist roles who are embedded within The Harbour. These include a Clinical Psychologist, embedded police roles, Senior Youth Practitioners and Youth Practitioners.

The post involves identification at highly specialist level of communication disorders and the provision of a menu of appropriate interventions, including individual and group programmes to the young people and their staff.

There will be regular supportive meetings and staff will share skills across the team. You will be expected to deliver training as required and be confident in working in a complex and challenging environment. The work requires someone who combines emotional resilience with innovative approaches to engaging with children and young people. You will need a flexible approach to your working day and occasionally be required to work in the evening or at a weekend.

What you will be doing

The post holder will be managerially responsible to The Harbour Service Manager for annual leave/ sickness/ and day to appraisal and management supervision. Clinical supervision will be available. Day to day they will report to The Harbour Registered Manager.

About you

Applicants must be a qualified Speech and Language Therapist and registered with the HCPC and have relevant post qualification experience.
