To support us in continuing to develop services, we are now seeking to appoint a Head of Speech and Language Therapy Services. The successful candidate will champion and lead a service that embraces innovation and is committed to integrated working and quality improvement. The Children’s Service enjoys ongoing excellent relationships with our three local authorities and is working in close partnership to prepare for implementation of the ALNET Act.

The adult service working as one team across the four hospital sites and within community settings strives to provide equitable, efficient and timely service to our population.

The service engages in All Wales initiatives and staff benefit from strong national professional networks and pathways. Through full membership of the Wales Speech and Language Therapy Advisory Forum the new Head of Speech and Language Therapy has the opportunity to influence Welsh Government policy and shape the profession across Wales.

In the Therapy Directorate at Hywel Dda University Health Board you will be working alongside the other Heads of Therapies with pride and mutual respect in a caring and compassionate clinical collective of Allied Health Professionals. Accountable to, and working with, the Clinical Director of Therapy Services, there is the opportunity to challenge and support each other. The Therapy Services Directorate, working with the Executive Director for Therapy and Health Sciences, provides real scope to influence and shape future clinical service provision across all counties and divisions of the Health Board.

The Head of Speech and Language Therapy Services will lead a team of over 80 speech and language therapy staff, supported by experienced and cohesive operational teams. We are looking for an experienced, confident, energetic and highly motivated individual with a proven track record of delivery. This is a great development opportunity for a visible, engaging senior speech and language therapist with significant experience of clinical leadership within healthcare and local authority provision.

This is a challenging and diverse lead role, to provide leadership across acute and community hospital sites and community services within the Health Board and across three local authorities. The service delivers high quality models of care and there is significant scope to continue to drive innovative ways of working and new models of care to build on our existing success.
