Reporting to: the Lower School Principal
Start date: 14 August 2012 (this is a maternity cover position through to either December 20 or February 8, 2013)

Overall purpose
The Early Childhood Speech/Language Therapist is responsible for identifying, assessing, and instructing Lower School children ages 4-8 years old with articulation delays, language learning difficulties or phonological awareness delays and works closely with classroom teachers, other special needs teachers, and parents.
Summary of duties
• Provide direct instruction to identified children
• Work collaboratively with teachers, including some direct classroom instruction in phonological awareness for groups of children ages 4-6 years old
• Evaluate prospective students and current students and prepare reports in a timely manner
• Prepare individual educational plans for children in caseload
• Serve as member of Lower School student support team
• Attend and/or conduct parent conferences
• Consult with teachers
• Present in-service programs to teachers and parents
• Take an active role with LS special events, staff meetings and workshops
• Follow up with parents on hearing status and medical concerns
• Participate actively in the life of the School, through attendance at events, committee membership and leadership of extracurricular activities
• Any other duties as are within the scope, spirit and purpose of the job as requested by the Principal
Selection criteria
Essential qualifications/experience:
• Master's degree
• At least two years’ experience practicing speech and language therapy in a school setting
• RCSLT certified or similar certification (e.g. ASHA)
• Strong oral and written communication skills
• A desire to work in a team-focused, community environment
• Excellent technology skills; up-to-date knowledge of current trends in classroom technology
• Willingness to contribute to school life outside of the classroom
• A proven commitment to the safeguarding and welfare of children
Desirable qualifications/experience:

• Recent training/experience with phonological awareness
• Experience with early literacy programs for 4-7 year olds
• Demonstrated proficiency in using technology as a means of enhancing language learning
• Flexibility and a keen sense of organization
• Recent professional development in assessment, phonological awareness, and language learning difficulties
• Familiarity with American educational practices
• Knowledge and understanding of international and/or independent school communities
